You can read “Why This Site?” to understand the purpose of the United States Data Labs project. The videos below explain how to use the data visualizations on the website.

Data visualization tools help the user see and understand data, a key to having a data-driven organization. Though public policy decisions are not simply a matter of interpreting the data, not knowing the facts, as best they can be collected and analyzed, is akin to driving a car with your eyes closed.

We use Tableau to create our data visualizations. By using visual elements like charts, graphs, and maps, data visualization tools provide an accessible way to see and understand trends, outliers, and patterns in data. The visual elements are displayed on a series of dashboards organized around a specific topic.

The individual topics are organized into categories, and each topic is a data visualization. consisting of several dashboards. Use the guides below to learn how to navigate to the topic you wish to study, and the basics of how to use the Tableau dashboards.
